I traveled to Fort Collins, CO with my granddaughter Sarah Whitten where she visited Uncle Evan and Aunt Kelly and hung out with her cousins Bailey and Spencer Zweifel. We did all sorts of things: went to a Rockies game, went picnicking and rock climbing at a national park in Wyoming, went swimming, etc. etc. We saw a zillion antelope play (no buffalo though) and, a first for all of us, a hummingbird nest with two babies in it! One highlight of the trip was a visit to Central City Opera on July 14 to see Benjamin Britten's opera A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was simply wonderful! The staging, the costumes, the singing. And last but not least, Sarah and Bailey got a hug after the performance from the great diva, Sylvia McNair, who sang the part of Helena.

Here we are in front of the Evan Zweifels' house in Fort Collins getting ready to leave for the opera. Once we got to Central City we saw some of thespectators arriving in costume. I wish we'd thought of it; we could have dressed up like fairies!
As usual, Kelly packed a fabulous lunch for us which we ate in the garden next to the opera house. A friendly squirrel kept us company:
After lunch, the girls checked out the face on the barroom floor in the Teller House:
